Two-goal Madders your Player of the Match after Etihad triumph

James Maddison has been named your HSBC Player of the Match after he bagged a brace on his birthday as we ran out 4-0 winners over Manchester City on Saturday.

Back in the starting XI, our number 10 was back with a bang as he not just scored twice, but delivered an all-round performance at the Etihad which earned him your votes as he came top of our Player of the Match poll on our Official App for the third time this campaign.

Having last started a Premier League game as we made the trip to Crystal Palace last month, the midfielder returned to the side on what was his 28th birthday and he seemed back at his best in Lilywhite.

Notable from the early moments when we were under the cosh to the champions, 'Madders' got stuck in defensively, dropping in to support Yves Bissouma at the base of our midfielder to protect our area - only Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie (both three) made more successful tackles than the England international (two) and only Yves made more interceptions (two).

Helping to relieve pressure at the back, he was disciplined but incisive in his play when we were on the front foot and chose him moments carefully to attack the box, enjoying a 100 per cent conversion rate as his two shots at goal - both in the opening 20 minutes - both found the back of the net - and what goals they were.

Opening the scoring 13 minutes in, the midfielder volleyed home for his fourth Premier League goal before he chipped home seven minutes later for his fifth of the campaign - goals which made him our leading Premier League goalscorer for the campaign with all five coming in his last eight starts!

Only Yves Bissouma (93 per cent) enjoyed a better pass success rate than our number 10 (89 per cent) while he also enjoyed a 100 per cent dribble success rate.
