Five Spurs supporting members of the Armed Forces at Women's game
Sat 02 November 2024, 19:00|Tottenham Hotspur
As we enter this period of Remembrance, the Club will be paying its respects to those that have lost their lives in armed conflict and showing support for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Ahead of kick-off at both Men’s and Women’s matches, red and purple wreaths will be laid by serving members of our Armed Forces Spurs Official Supporters’ Club.
For our WSL fixture against West Ham United at Brisbane Road, we will be joined by five Spurs supporting members of the Armed Forces, representative of all services, and we can introduce them below…
Sgt Gwilliam
Sgt Gwilliam joined the British Army back in 2012 as a Vehicle Mechanic in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Throughout her career, the army has given so many great opportunities to travel around the world and this includes playing football which she is very passionate about. Her initial love of football and Tottenham Hotspur stems from her grandad taking her to her first Spurs game when she was very young.
Cpl Johnson
Corporal Johnson enlisted in the British Army in November 2006, completing both basic training and vehicle mechanic trade training. She currently serves in the Royal Mechanical and Electrical Engineers in Essex, with 29EOD. Corporal Johnson has represented the Army and REME in women's football and played for the Orange Oilers in ice hockey while stationed in Canada. A passionate Spurs supporter since she was 15, she has attended many matches for both the men's and women's teams. If she hadn't joined the Army, she definitely would have wanted to play for Spurs.
LCpl Barnard
LCpl Barnard currently serves with 2 (Trg) Regt Army Air Corps. She served for just over seven years and has been deployed on numerous exercises during this time, including deployments to Baltics/ Estonia, Croatia, and Jordan. She has worked in recruitment, working events such as Silverstone, and her next posting will be as a Section Commander at ATR Pirbright. Outside of work, she plays Corps and Army level football; a highlight of her career so far was visiting Australia with the Corps football team back in the summer. She has been a Spurs fan for as long as she can remember, frequently going to 'The Lane'. With the growth of women's football, she now splits her time between both the men's and women's team, but would love to see either side bring home silver wear this season!
Sgt Stocking
Sgt Jacob Stocking has been a Royal Air Force Air Cadet for 2 years now and intends on joining the RAF when he ages out. He is at 14F Northolt squadron, based at RAF Northolt. He is a lifelong Spurs fan and it’s always been his dream to combine his two great loves. Tottenham Hotspur is in his blood and as a family they adore the club. He is very proud to be taking part in such an important event and it will be a memory he carries with him for his whole life.
WO1 (RSM) Lord
WO1 Rob Lord has been in the Army for nearly 22 years and is part of Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME). He has the privilege of being the Regimental Sergeant Major at MOD Lyneham where 1200 new soldiers are undertaking trade training to become Armourers, mechanics & aviation technicians to name a few. He has been deployed to various locations around the world including Iraq, Poland, Canada, Afghanistan, Cyprus and Estonia. A very good centre back in his Army youth days, he now manages the REME Women’s Football team where they currently sit top of their league. Rob has been a Tottenham fan since he was 7. He even won tickets at a church raffle many moons ago when he saw Gary Lineker score at White Hart Lane. Rob was also an admirer of the old goalkeeper, Erik Thorstvedt.
