A group of aspiring Australian footballers were today treated to a unique training session and coaching masterclass by Ledley King.
The youngsters were from Christian Brothers’ College, a boys’ school based in Adelaide and one of our Global Football Development partners.
The group are visiting the Club’s Training Centre for a week-long programme in order to experience a week in the life of a professional player. Our Global Football Development coaches are running technical training sessions for the players to support their individual development, including interactive workshops on health and nutrition, strength and conditioning, as well as leadership.
During today’s session, our former captain Ledley joined up with the group to offer coaching and technical advice to the students.
Ledley King's coaching masterclass
• The Club is hosting 16 aspiring Australian footballers at our Training Centre in Enfield
• The group, from our Global Football Development partner Christian Brothers’ College, are experiencing a week in the life of a professional footballer
• Our former captain Ledley King treated the students to a coaching masterclass on Tuesday as part of their trip
Ledley said" “I have been very impressed by the standard and their enthusiasm for the game. It has been a great opportunity for them to come over to our Training Centre and learn as much as possible.
“We have a big connection with Australia of course through the likes of Ange, Mile Jedinak and our Matildas. It is fantastic we are seeing the growth of our fanbase in Australia, and I think partnerships like this with Christian Brothers’ are vital to maintain and build on that support.”
Speaking about Ledley’s coaching session, Christian Brothers’ College student Oscar said: “One key takeaway from the masterclass is that age doesn’t define your potential. Focusing on the basics and mastering the fundamentals of football does. That’s when you’ll have the foundation to go all the way.”
Our Christian Brothers’ College 'Soccer' Programme offers student-athletes access to premier coaching, advanced training methods, and exposure to professional standards. The skills developed through the programme greatly benefits those aspiring to advance further in their football career.
Earlier this year, one of our coaches Gerald Lami delivered a 12-week programme for students at the school, across both their Junior and Senior campuses, using the Club’s philosophy.
Danny Mitchell, Head of Global Coaching, said: “We were delighted to have Ledley visit the boys today. His coaching advice was invaluable, and I am sure it will be an experience the group remember for the rest of their lives.
“Our partnership with Christian Brothers’ College continues to go from strength to strength following Gerald’s visit to Adelaide earlier this year, and we are thrilled to have some of the students with us for this week’s programme to reinforce the learning they have experienced so far. We are already looking forward to having a member of the team return to Adelaide next year.”
The Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Development Programme works closely with the Club’s Academy and Women’s Junior Talent Pathway to provide individual progression pathways for players of all development levels.
Player development is at the heart of the Club and The Global Development team impact over 45,000 players and coaches annually, as well as demonstrating year-on-year growth. Technical sessions are delivered by FA and UEFA-qualified coaches who take inspiration from the Club’s Men’s and Women’s First Team training methods to help develop every player that takes part on the programmes to create a pathway for all players to progress from grassroots to elite environments.
