Three of our Under-21 players have been shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.

Jamie Donley, Will Lankshear and Jude Soonsup-Bell are three of eight players from across the division the Premier League has today (Friday 17 May) named as being in the running for the annual accolade.

Jamie, who made his first team debut at Manchester City in December, has been king of the assists for Wayne Burnett’s side this season, registering 14 so far in the Premier League 2 alone, in addition to scoring six goals.

Striker Will is the division’s top scorer with 20 goals across the league phase and play-offs so far – he’s currently on 29 for us in all competitions this term.

Versatile forward Jude, who has operated either through the middle or out wide, has also reached double figures, netting 10 goals and providing six assists in the Premier League 2 so far.

The nominations come at the end of a wonderful season for our Under-21s, over the course of which several players have been recognised for their achievements. Throughout 2023/24, the squad has seen nine instances of players being shortlisted for Premier League 2 Player of the Month – Yago Santiago (August and October), Jamie Donley (August and October), Alfie Dorrington (September), Will Lankshear (November, January and April) and Rio Kyerematen (April). Jamie won the prize in October while Will took the honour in February.

Unfortunately, a similarly strong run in the Premier League Cup ended at the final hurdle with defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Thursday night, however, having finished first in the league phase of the season, we’re still competing in the Premier League 2 play-offs to crown the overall winner – we’ll host Chelsea in the semi-final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (12pm UK, live on SPURSPLAY, tickets available now).

Leo Castledine of Chelsea, Zach Abbott of Nottingham Forest, Michael Strickland of Reading and George Earthy and Callum Marshall from West Ham United are the other Player of the Season nominees – the Premier League will announce the winner at an awards ceremony this Wednesday.
