Charlotte Grant and Shuang Wang both featured for their respective countries as Australia and China drew 1-1 in an international friendly on Friday (31 May) morning.

It was a special occasion for ‘Charli’ as the game was held at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, Australia, the city where the defender grew up and the first time the Matildas have played there since 2019.

The 22-year-old started the game in front of a sold-out crowd of 52,912, while midfielder Shuang was named in the starting XI for China, and it was the visitors who took the lead in the first half as a deflected cross found former Spur player Zhang Linyan and she guided her effort past Mackenzie Arnold.

After a strong second half from Australia, they eventually found the equaliser in the fifth minute of injury time when Michelle Heyman tucked home from close-range to rescue a draw for the home side.

Charli would go on to complete 62 minutes in her 25th appearance for her country, while Shuang was substituted in the 86th minute.

The pair will face each other once again on Monday (3 June) when the two sides meet at Stadium Australia, Sydney, in Australia’s final game (10.40am UK) before this summer’s Olympic games next month.
