Spurs vs City | Ange’s preview: “We’ll play our football and see how we measure up”

Ange Postecoglou is relishing a ‘great challenge’ against Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening (8pm UK).
It’s all on the line in N17. We need to win to have a chance of finishing fourth, anything less and Aston Villa will be guaranteed that final Champions League place next season. As we all know, City are chasing down Arsenal for the title - they are a point behind with this game in hand ahead of the final weekend.
Ange has always looked at the bigger picture than league position this term and reiterated that his first season at Spurs is about ‘where we’re at’. So, this evening’s huge clash represents another chance to do that against a team chasing an unprecedented four titles on the trot - and a team that has won 18 of their last 21 league matches.
If you try and adjust to opposition or try to change for a one-off, I just don’t think you get a good measure of where you’re at...
Speaking to us on Monday, Ange said: “City are pretty formidable at the moment. This time of year, they always seem to be playing their style of football. Certainly, their recent form shows that they’ve got their eyes firmly set on becoming champions again.
“It’s a great challenge for us. Why not go out there and measure ourselves against a team that is consistently competing for trophies and see how we measure up? We’ll go out there and hopefully give them a good test.”
Asked how he might approach the game, Ange added: “ You can’t play their game. It’s fair to say they are well ahead of the rest in terms of trying to play their kind of football.
“Again, what’s important for us - how you measure yourself against the best is to be yourself and see where that takes you. If you try and adjust to opposition or try to change for a one-off, I just don’t think you get a good measure of where you’re at. That’s what this year is about for us - where we’re at. We’ll go out there and play our football, as we have all year, and see how we measure up.”
