The Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Terry Medwin, a member of our famous double-winning squad of 1960/61, who passed away this morning (Wednesday 1 May). He was 91.

A versatile forward who could play in all positions across the front line, Terry joined us from Swansea Town in April, 1956 and went on to make 215 appearances in all competitions for us, scoring 72 goals.

Terry made 15 appearances in that double season, contributing five goals, and then played his part as we retained the FA Cup in 1962 - he scored in the semi-final against Manchester United and played in the final win against Burnley.

Unfortunately, his career was cruelly cut short after breaking his leg in a tour match in South Africa in May, 1963. He fought on for two years before retiring in 1965.

Born in Swansea on 25 September, 1932, Terry joined Swansea Town (now City) as an amateur before signing professional forms in September, 1949. He made his debut against Blackburn in January, 1952 and went on to make 147 league appearances for the Swans, scoring 57 goals.

Spurs came calling in April, 1956 and after his seven years here, eventually retiring through injury in 1965, Terry had management, coaching and scouting roles at the likes of Cardiff City, Fulham, Norwich City and back home at Swansea, where he was assistant manager from 1978-1981.

Capped 30 times by Wales, Terry was a member of the squad - alongside Spurs team-mates Mel Hopkins and Cliff Jones - that reached the quarter-finals of the 1958 World Cup. Indeed, he scored the winner against Hungary in a play-off that took Wales into the last eight, where they were narrowly beaten by Pele's Brazil.

Our thoughts are with Terry’s family and friends at this impossibly sad time.
