James Maddison has been named in England’s provisional squad for UEFA Euro 2024.
Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate listed his training squad on Tuesday (21 May) as preparations for this summer’s major tournament begin with pre-Euros friendlies against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland on home soil next month.
‘Madders’ played a key role in helping us to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League to secure UEFA Europa League football next term, registering 13 goal contributions (four goals, nine assists) in 28 appearances in his first season at the Club.
The 27-year-old midfielder registered his sixth cap and third as a Spurs player with an impressive cameo in his last outing in an England shirt, providing an assist for Jude Bellingham’s last-gasp equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw with Belgium back in March.
Upon our return from a post-season trip to Melbourne, Australia to play Newcastle United in a friendly at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday (kick-off 10.45am UK), our number 10 will join up with his international team-mates before taking on Bosnia at Newcastle’s St James’ Park on Tuesday 3 June (KO 7.45pm UK) and Iceland at Wembley Stadium four days later (Friday 7 June, KO 7.45pm UK).
England boss Southgate is then set to announce his final Euro 2024 Finals squad list, up to 26 players, on 8 June before kicking off their campaign against Serbia in Germany on 16 June.
