Robert Vilahamn has called for a strong end to our Barclays Women’s Super League season as we prepare for the final four games of the campaign.
It starts with a trip to Walton Hall Park to face Everton on Saturday (12pm UK) in our final away game of the season followed by Chelsea at Brisbane Road (Wednesday 15 May) and West Ham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (Saturday 18 May) and, in between that, an FA Cup final next weekend.
However, the focus remains on Everton this weekend and, while Brian Sorensen’s side sit ninth in the table, they have recorded impressive results in their last two games, beating Brighton 2-1 at the Amex Stadium before securing their first-ever point against Arsenal last weekend.
“When you look at them, they play well and press high, but they aren’t always getting the result, however, they are actually a very good team,” Robert said when asked about Everton.
“Brian has done great work with his squad because he is using loads of players and also putting on these young players who can also have an impact. It just shows that this league is very competitive, that’s why you want to be in this league as they are so many games when you don’t know who is going to win.”
“It will be a tough game… it’s two teams coming in quite good form. Both me and Brian want to play football from the back so, hopefully, it will be a good game.”
Sitting sixth in the table ahead of the trip to Merseyside, and although there is potential to move up and down in our last three league games, Robert want to use these final games to build for next season.
“We can still end up in seventh so we will need to try and secure the sixth spot, perhaps go for fifth as we can do, but it will be very tough,” he added.
“The main thing will try to have a good run in the last four games, play some good football and continue to be consistently good, then you can build on that for next season. It’s important to not give away in games, we need to be sharp to continue to develop because, when we start next year, we want to be on a good step to push to the next level.”
