Youngsters with a passion for music were treated to an impromptu DJ set by Alfie Whiteman this week as he dropped in on a local music project in Tottenham.

Academy product Alfie grew up a few miles away from the Northumberland Park based project, and has a passion for DJing, hosting his first radio show on NTS earlier this year.

He surprised local youngsters when he took part in one of their popular weekly music workshops in which participants learn various aspects of production, recording and mixing music.

Alfie took the time to speak to the young people about his own passion for music as they took him on a tour of their recording studio before showing off his own skills on the decks.

Project 2020 is a Haringey Council scheme offering a range of free engagement activities locally providing a safe space for those aged 11-19 to explore their passions, learn new skills and make friends.

Their ‘Off Road Hub’ hosts a music workshop each Thursday and provides open access to other facilities including table tennis, gaming, arts and crafts and pool.

Speaking after the event, Alfie said: “I really enjoyed today. I grew up near Broadwater Farm, so it was great to see such a fantastic project available for young people in the area. It was great to speak to the kids about their own interests, they asked some great questions, and I was really pleased to see how passionate they were about making music."
