Guglielmo Vicario spoke of his 'pride' after making his long-awaited debut for the Italy National Team on Sunday night.

Selected to start in the Azzurri's international friendly with Ecuador at New York Red Bulls' Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, it marked a landmark moment for our summer signing from Empoli as he stepped out for his national team for the first time.

Having never appeared for Italy at any level, the 27-year-old only received his first call-up to his national team bak in September, 2022, but, with the constant of Gianluigi Donnarumma in the side since his debut at the age of 17 back in 2016, Italy's number one shirt has been hard to prize from the Paris Saint-Germain's stopper's gloves - Donnarumma had played in every single game for Italy since November, 2022.

However, on Sunday evening, Guglielmo made a positive impact as he was presented his very first opportunity between the sticks for his country, keeping a clean sheet as Luciano Spaletti's side ran out 2-0 winners.

Reflecting on his international debut as he spoke to the Italian television network RAI after the game, Vic said: “It was a target I had set for myself, and I am so pleased to have done it with a clean sheet and a victory. We deserved the win tonight.

“My objective is to improve day after day, without setting limits and without flying too close to the sun either. I try to experience the present and expect the maximum from myself.”
