The north London derby continued to highlight the growth of the Women’s game.
Over 60,000 supporters attended the Barclays Women’s Super League clash on Sunday afternoon, where we went toe-to-toe with one of the top sides in the league – the teams only separated by Alessia Russo’s goal early in the second half.
This Friday (8 March), we will be celebrating International Women’s Day across our social channels and Robert took to his official Instagram account on Monday to express his opinion on how the evolution of the women’s game is inspiring the next generation.
“60, 050 people came to our game yesterday to watch women’s football between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. One of them was my daughter, who could experience these fantastic women athletes entertaining a sold-out stadium.
“She dreams of being a professional footballer like them and playing in games like that. As a father to a daughter, I am pleased that women’s football has come so far that this dream is possible.
“My son was also at the game yesterday, and he loved the atmosphere. He now has male and female football idols that he looks up to.
“As an advocate of gender equity, this is massive and extremely important. Today’s boys and girls will grow up and become the next generation of adults who have experienced both men and women playing in front of packed stadiums.
“This will be the new normal for this generation, and all amazing athletes, both women and men, will be respected for what they are, which is amazing athletes!”
