Ange Postecoglou is well aware of the positive effect Oliver Glasner’s arrival has had on Palace, but his focus is all about us as we prepare to meet in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday (3pm UK).
It’s less than two years since we last bumped into Glasner, who was in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt when we met the Bundesliga side in the group stage of the 2022/23 Champions League. Glasner won the Europa League with Frankfurt in 2021/22 after spells at LASK in Austria and Vfl Wolfsburg.
He was appointed Palace boss on 19 February – the same day Palace drew 1-1 at Everton – and his first game in charge brought a 3-0 win against Burnley at Selhurst Park last weekend.
Speaking to Inside Spurs, Ange told us: “Every time there is a manager change it has a positive effect, and you could see that last week with the way Palace went about their business. Oliver had a great stint at Frankfurt, has a really distinct style of play.
“We have to be ready for it but, again, for us, for where we are at the moment it’s more important, we go out there and play our football, try and dominate in the areas we want to dominate and bring the energy and effort we’ve had recently, but also try to dominate with our football as well.”
Asked about the impact of Glasner’s arrival at Selhurst Park in his pre-match press conference, Ange said: “Usually there's a positive effect when a new manager comes in and you saw that last week with the way Crystal Palace went about things. Oliver's a very well-credentialed coach, especially at Frankfurt he produced a really strong team with a really distinct style of play, so you'll probably see elements of that.
“At the same time, I think we're at the stage of our development where real emphasis is still on us and playing our football and making sure we bring the kind of energy and commitment to our game that we've shown at times this year. Also, the effort that's got us to where we are right now. So that will be our main focus.”
