Another dramatic comeback at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw us score three times in 11 minutes late in the game to give us three crucial points against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Here is the main action from an eventful afternoon in north London...

  • A goalless first half, Timo Werner spurning a glorious chance to open the scoring.
  • Heung-Min Son strikes the post early in the second half.
  • Palace break the deadlock, Eberechi Eze with a stunning free-kick.
  • Werner's first Spurs goal levels it up on 77 minutes.
  • We take the lead three minutes later through Cristian Romero.
  • Son seals the win two minutes from time.

After a goalless and frustrating first half, the Eagles took the lead thanks to a wonderful free-kick from Eberechi Eze to leave us chasing the game yet again in N17. But once more, we produced a dramatic turnaround, Timo Werner scoring his first goal in his seventh game for us with the equaliser before Cristian Romero headed us in front and Heung-Min Son made it 3-1 as he netted his ninth goal in 17 appearances against Palace.

The victory – our ninth successive Premier League home win against the Eagles – moves us to within two points of fourth placed Aston Villa in the table.

A couple of early chances fell to the visitors as Jordan Ayew smashed a shot way over the bar and Jean-Philippe Mateta saw his effort from a free-kick blocked by Emerson Royal.

A golden opportunity came our way on 18 minutes, Rodrigo Bentancur winning the ball back midway inside our own half allowing Son to play a first-time pass which set Werner clean through on goal but, as he attempted to round Sam Johnstone, the goalkeeper sprawled to save the forward’s shot. Then, at the other end, Guglielmo Vicario was quick off his line to thwart Daniel Munoz.

We were totally dominant in possession, having just under 80 per cent of the ball throughout the whole game but the visitors were holding us at bay in the first period with their massed ranks in defence. We weren’t having too much joy in attacking areas, although Son just failed to get on the end of Royal’s cross on a quick counter-attack and there was a degree of frustration around the stadium as the half-time whistle blew.

There was no change in the early stages of the second half as we continued to see plenty of the ball and had a penalty appeal waved away after Werner appeared to be tripped in the box by Munoz before a wonderful ball in from Dejan Kulusevski was met first-time with a right-footed drive from Son which beat Johnstone but crashed against the foot of the post.

For all our domination though, it was the visitors with the opening goal just before the hour mark. Bentancur upended Eze a couple of yards outside our area and the Palace man picked himself up and hit a superb right-footed free-kick into the far corner.

Werner brought another save out of Johnstone shortly after and Brennan Johnson lifted a close-range effort over the bar moments after coming on as we sought a swift response. The equaliser almost came on 75 minutes, Destiny Udogie threading the ball through for Son whose shot drifted a yard past the far post.

It did, however, come two minutes later after excellent work from Johnson, who pressured Joachim Andersen down the left and then dispossessed the Palace defender before sliding over the perfect cross for Werner to tuck home at the back post.

Momentum was well and truly with us and, as we’ve seen many times already this season, a deficit quickly became a lead as we scored again three minutes later. This one was as simple as they come, James Maddison receiving Royal’s throw-in and lifting the ball into the box where Romero got up above Joel Ward to glance a header past Johnstone.

And the points were wrapped up two minutes from time with Son getting his now almost obligatory goal against Palace. Johnson won a tackle just inside our half and the ball flew forward, Son reacting quickest to streak clear of the Eagles' defence and confidently finish.

Ange's verdict...

"It was a difficult game for us. They sat very deep, and we had to be patient. I felt like we were working them, making them work and we know we’re not going to stop until the 100th minute. I felt at some point they would break. A goal would have helped that process and we had a couple of chances in the first half to do that. I still felt we were really disciplined in our approach and some of our football was making them work hard enough, which we needed to do. Obviously, when you then concede, that was disappointing, but it was the only time they really got into our half. Then, you’re looking for a reaction, and the reaction was outstanding. What I did know is as long as we persisted and kept our belief, we would score. I really believed that."
