It was a weekend to remember for Matilda Vinberg as she celebrated her 21st birthday on Saturday and, just 24 hours later, she opened her account for the Club.
The Sweden international was handed her first start in the Barclays Women’s Super League by Robert Vilahamn and it couldn’t have got off to a better start as, with only two minutes on the clock, she netted her first goal with a composed finish.
It was a stunning move from back to front, with Becky Spencer picking out Celin Bizet, Drew Spence then played the ball to Jess on the left and her inch-perfect cross was tapped home by Matilda.
The goal was enough to secure an important 1-0 victory over Leicester City in the WSL -our first win in four games – and maintains our push for a top five finish, sitting six points behind Liverpool and Manchester United.
Reflecting on scoring her first goal in Lilywhite, she said: “It has been an amazing week and, on the top of that, turning 21 and scoring my first goal in the same week – it’s a special moment."
Matilda made the move to Hotspur Way in the January transfer window and has made 10 appearances in all competitions so far, with the 21-year-old enjoying every second of her time.
She added: “I’m enjoying it so much. The supporters are incredible, they have given me so much energy and it’s so important to have their back when we are playing here [Brisbane Road] – it means so much.”
