Martha Thomas was pleased to score her first international hat-trick as she continued her fantastic run of form in front of goal for Scotland in the latest international break.

Heading into the international window for May and June, the 28-year-old had already netted three goals in two games for her country since the turn of the year, finding the back of the net in games against Philippines and Finland in February.

The forward, who finished as our leading goalscorer this season with 10 goals in all competitions, then opened her account in the UEFA EURO 2025 qualifiers last Friday (31 May) as she scored the fourth in the 4-1 win over Israel.

Then, four days later, she bagged four in an emphatic 5-0 victory against the same opponents in a behind-closed-doors fixture in Budapest, Hungary, and helped Scotland continue their unbeaten start to their qualifying group, putting them on the brink of securing qualification for next summer’s EURO in Switzerland.

Although Martha has already netted 19 goals for her country in 35 appearances, the hat-trick against Israel was her first on the international stage and she was pleased to have achieved that.

“It’s the first international hat-trick for me, so that means a lot,” Martha told BBC Sport Scotland after the game.

Reflecting on the game, she added: “A great performance from the girls, we set out for six points in these two games and that’s exactly what we have done... we are happy to be top of the group.”
