Hojbjerg takes Player of the Match award after imperious performance against England

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was named the official UEFA Euro 2024 Player of the Match for his endeavours in Denmark's 1-1 draw with England on Thursday night.

Starting once more for his nation at the continental tournament in Germany, the midfielder was at his commanding best in the heart of the Danish midfielder, marshalling it majestically against Group C leaders England.

Claiming his 79th cap of his international career, our number five dominated on the pitch and that was reflected in the statistics. All over the pitch for his country, Pierre enjoyed 7.4 per cent possession of the ball in the game - the most of any player - while he also played 83 passes - again, the most of any player on the park. He also attempted nine tackles - the most of any player - and was successful with six of them - once more, the most of any player. He also made three interceptions - and, yes. You guessed it. The most of any player.

And, while he dominated in the defensive numbers, he also showed his potency in front of goal as he took on more shots than any other player (six) with four of them on target - no player managed more.
