Euro 2024 | Hojbjerg’s Denmark hold England

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg helped Denmark come from a goal down to draw 1-1 with England at Euro 2024 on Thursday evening.

The midfielder put in a starring performance over the full 90 minutes in Frankfurt as the Danes recovered from conceding to our former striker Harry Kane to level through Morten Hjulmand’s thunderous strike from distance 11 minutes before half-time.

Pierre was a threat with his long-range shooting throughout, notably forcing Jordan Pickford into a fine low save down to his right mid-way through the second period and then firing just off-target a few minutes later.

The result left Denmark second in Group C with two points from their opening two games. England, who missed the chance to guarantee top spot with a game to spare, are first with four points.

Spain slip-up for Vicario’s side

There was disappointment for Guglielmo Vicario on Thursday evening as his Italy side slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Spain in Gelsenkirchen, an own goal by Riccardo Calafiori proving decisive.

Vic was again an unused substitute for Italy, who need a point against Croatia on Monday to cement second place in Group B. Leaders Spain have qualified with two wins from two.
