Euro 2024 | Agony for duo as their campaign ends in last 16

Sat 29 June 2024, 23:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Guglielmo Vicario suffered last 16 heartache at Euro 2024 on Saturday evening.

Midfielder Pierre put in another full 90-minute shift for Denmark, but saw his side beaten 2-0 by host nation Germany in Dortmund.

The game was held up for around 20 minutes in the first period due to thunder and lightning, but second-half goals from Kai Havertz – a penalty – and Jamal Musiala sent the Danes out.

Pierre, who saw a late shot from distance charged down, started all four of Denmark’s games at the tournament.

Earlier, in Berlin, goalkeeper Vic remained an unused substitute for holders Italy, who crashed out via a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland.

Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas scored either side of half-time for the Swiss, who controlled the game to advance to the quarter-finals.

Saturday’s results mean we have two players left at the tournament, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin. They’ll face each other when the Netherlands meet Romania in the last 16 on Tuesday (5pm UK).
