Daws to join fans on cycle ride for Prostate Cancer UK tomorrow

Fri 07 June 2024, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Club Ambassador Michael Dawson will be hitting the road on two wheels with a group of Spurs supporters tomorrow (Saturday 8 June) in support of Prostate Cancer UK.

Our former captain, who made over 320 Spurs appearances, is joining the ‘Cycle On You Spurs’ squad for a leg of their annual London to Amsterdam fundraising ride.

Daws will be cycling 40 miles from the Stratford starting point to Maldon in Essex before his 35 Spurs supporting ‘team-mates’ will continue on the full 150-mile challenge to Amsterdam, aiming to raise over £50,000 for the leading men’s health charity. Money raised will fund lifesaving research to improve testing, treatments and care for those affected by the most common cancer in men.

Cycle On You Spurs was created by former Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust board member Kevin Fitzgerald in 2016, with the group raising an incredible £180,000 for Prostate Cancer UK to date. Sadly, Kevin passed away in May last year.

Daws said: “Since retiring from the game just over two years ago, I’ve been keeping fit and try to get out on the bike as regularly as possible. This is a great opportunity to join Spurs fans in raising funds and awareness for an incredible cause – the dedication of the Cycle On You Spurs team is quite remarkable.”

Fans can support the Cycle On You Spurs efforts by visiting their dedicated Just Giving page to make a donation: https://www.justgiving.com/team/coys.

Prostate cancer is a disease that affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. Those odds shorten to 1 in 4 for Black men.

Sadly over 12,000 men die every year from prostate cancer - but it does not have to be like this. Prostate cancer is often treatable if caught early.
