Ella Morris: “It’s a Club with big ambitions”

Tue 16 July 2024, 17:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Ella Morris has already racked up plenty of experience at the age of 21, but she is relishing the opportunity of competing in the Women’s Super League in our colours.

The England youth international has put pen to paper on a deal until 2027 following the expiration of her contract with Southampton, where she progressed through the youth set-up to a first team starter.

Playing regularly in the FA Women’s Championship for the last two seasons, helping the Saints to a fourth-place finish last term, ending seven points behind champions Crystal Palace, the defender feels she is ready to embark on a new adventure in her career.

Completing her move to north London on Tuesday afternoon, Ella spoke of her excitement to play under Robert Vilahamn’s style of football and getting to know the whole squad.

“I’m very excited to be here, it’s a big Club with big ambitions so I’m excited to get started and meet everybody,” she said. “The training ground is pretty amazing and the staff here are incredible.

It's my first time moving to a new club so I’m looking forward to being in a new environment, meet new people and throw myself into the deep end.

“I spoke to Robert and Vicky [Jepson], the style of football they want to play is really exciting and that’s something I want to be a part of. The girls seem amazing as well, so I’m excited to get going with them.

“It's my first time moving to a new club so I’m looking forward to being in a new environment, meet new people and throw myself into the deep end, hopefully make some friends for life and learn as much as I can from my teammates.”

Ella joined Southampton at the age of 14 and, after progressing through the academy and into the first team, she would go on to make 117 appearances for the south coast club, scoring 14 goals in that time. She was full of praise for her time there but is ready for a new challenge in England’s top division.

“I was at Hampshire Centre of Excellence before it transferred into Southampton’s Regional Talent Centre, so coming through their academy was massive to helping me get to this point and I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done. I’m a WSL player now with Spurs, a massive Club, I’m really looking forward to get going with them.”

A number of our Women’s first team players returned to pre-season training on Monday (15 July) as preparations for the upcoming WSL campaign got underway and Ella is looking forward to getting started with the group.

“It’s about getting settled in, starting to push on and hopefully get a lot of points with the girls, get a few assists and goals and just work to create a competitive environment in the squad.

“I try to really enjoy playing as I think that’s massive for football because if you love it and enjoy it, then that is where you are showing your best self.”
