Ossie and Ledley visit local school in Tokyo

• Club ambassadors Ledley King and Ossie Ardiles visited Kaetsu Ariake Junior and Senior High School in Tokyo during the Club’s pre-season tour stop in Japan
• The pair offered coaching advice to the students during a football training session before conducting a Q&A around the topics of community spirit and resilience
• The school is highly community conscious and is a volunteer partner of local charity initiative the Tokyo Yamathon
• The Club has always placed huge emphasis on education as being the vehicle for young people to fulfil their potential

The school not only has a huge passion for football but is also highly community conscious. Kaetsu Ariake Junior and Senior High School is a volunteer partner of the Tokyo Yamathon, a challenge to walk around all 30 stations of the JR Yamanote train line in Tokyo in under 12 hours, all in support of local charities.

Students from Kaetsu Ariake have taken part in the Tokyo Yamathon and even convinced the school to dedicate a full day so they could participate, underlining their commitment to their community.

With this in mind, the Q&A centred around the topics of community spirit and resilience, with our legends discussing examples from their own careers when they have had to rely on these traits.

Speaking at the school, Ledley said: “It was a pleasure to meet some of the students at Kaetsu Ariake school during our visit to Tokyo. They spoke with real passion about the importance of their community, and this is absolutely something we value at Spurs as well through the work our Foundation does in our local area.”

Kenta Iwai, teacher at Kaetsu Ariake Junior and Senior High School, said: “It was such a wonderful opportunity for the students to have had the chance to interact with these two legends. Ossie & Ledley were brilliant guests and were able to discuss how Tottenham Hotspur have led the way on building a community in their area. At Kaetsu Ariake this is something we place huge emphasis on, and so it was great for our students to listen and learn from them both.”

The Club has always placed huge emphasis on education as being the vehicle for young people to fulfil their potential.

Back home in north London, the Club’s Foundation works in schools throughout the community, using the power of football to boost engagement in the classroom and drive educational attainment.

The Club also sponsors a Sixth Form college on its stadium campus - the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham - giving talented local young people the opportunity to access the country’s top Universities.
