First opponent in Europe, title-winning setting - Ange's Hearts record

Wed 17 July 2024, 12:00|Tottenham Hotspur

While this evening's opponents Hearts are a side we rarely encounter, Ange Postecoglou is all too aware of them.

A club celebrating it's 150th birthday this evening with this exhibition clash with us at Tynecastle, it will be just the 11th time we have met with the Edinburgh-based side. However, for Ange, who, bearing in mind, has only been in management in Europe for the last three years, this will also be his 11th meeting with Hearts.

Coincidentally, Hearts were Ange's first competitive test as a manager in Europe as, following his appointment at Celtic in June, 2021, it was a trip to tonight's venue of Tynecastle to face the Jambos which first awaited the Australian. Frustratingly, that maiden game ended as a loss for Ange, but that was the only time he would taste defeat to Hearts during his time in Scotland.

Facing them on another nine occasions across his stint in Glasgow in the league and both cup competitions, our Head Coach led Celtic to victories in all of them, and that included a memorable 2-0 win at Tynecastle in May, 2023, which saw the Bhoys secure a second-successive league title under Ange.

Across those 10 meetings, Ange's teams scored 25 goals and conceded 10.
