Copa America | Spurs contingent learn quarter-final opponents

Wed 03 July 2024, 17:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Our trio at the Copa America have learned who they will face in the competition's quarter-finals.

Having all helped their respective nations finish at the top of their groups at the tournament in the USA, Uruguay's Rodrigo Bentancur and Argentina duo Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso now know who they will face with just eight teams left in the competition.

Representing defending champions Argentina, Cuti and Gio both played their part as La Albiceleste enjoyed a 100 per cent record in Group A. Winning all three games and not conceding a single goal in the group stage, La Selección will now take on Group B runners up Ecuador. Having won their last game of the group stage 2-0 against Peru in Miami, Florida, they will now take on Ecuador in Houston, Texas - the fourth different US State they have visited so far (Friday 5 July).

Rodrigo's Uruguay, also took top spot in Group C as La Celeste, led by former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa, won all three of their games in the group stage. 'Lolo' was even on target in that run as he grabbed his nation's fifth in a 5-0 win over Bolivia on Matchday Two. Having also played in three different States thus far, Uruguay will now travel to their fourth for their quarter-final tie - a clash with Brazil in Las Vegas, Nevada (Sunday 7 July).
