Ange Postecoglou felt our performance in our 4-3 win over Team K League in Seoul on Wednesday was disrupted by the conditions, but admitted there were still positives to take from the game.
In an end-to-end clash at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, we were three to the good at half-time thanks to a superb Heung-Min Son brace and Dejan Kulusevski's first goal of pre-season. However, in the space of two second-half minutes, our hosts had reduced our lead to just one goal with a quick fire brace from Stanislav Iljutcenko.
We did restore some breathing room later on when Will Lankshear prodded home his second of pre-season but a wonder strike from Oberdan eight minutes from time set up a tense finish.
Having been working hard in the hot and humid conditions of north east Asia for the last nine days, Ange felt tiredness understandably played a part in our performance but our Head Coach knows the value of getting minutes in such conditions and pointed to those as the real positives of the game
"The game was okay," Ange reflected. "We obviously looked a bit tired tonight it’s fair to say and understandably so – we’re working hard in these conditions.
"I don’t think we were in the ideal condition going into it. We’ve obviously had a couple of days of quite hard training, but we don’t want to adjust how we play – that’s the challenge for our boys, to keep going.
"We weren’t as sharp as we want to be. Credit to the lads; they kept working hard. We did some nice things, some not so nice things but I think they’ll feel better after getting through that game. We’ll get a lot out of it from that respect, from a physical standpoint. I think that’s positive.
"There were some good things tonight, we scored some good goals tonight but there are still some things we need to work on but, overall, in terms of where we are at in terms of pre-season, it was an okay night."
In his post-match chat with SPURSPLAY, Ange also paid tribute to supporters at the Stadium.
Over 63,000 fans turned out in the Korean capital to watch us play and our Head Coach is hopeful they went home feeling entertained.
"It’s great," he said on the support we've received. "It’s been unbelievable since the moment we arrived to be honest but, yes, it makes a difference when you’re playing in big stadiums in front of big crowds, the players enjoy it and it adds a little bit of intensity to the game. Hopefully they got entertained tonight."
