Team news | Spurs vs Brentford | Ange on Sarr's availability
Tue 30 January 2024, 13:10|Tottenham Hotspur
Despite Senegal's exit from the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday evening, Pape Matar Sarr will not be available for selection for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Brentford, Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.
Falling to Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties in Yamoussoukro, Senegal's defence of their AFCON crown came to an end on Monday prompting suggestions that Pape may be back available for selection when we host the Bees at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later this week.
However, Ange has today (Tuesday 30 January) affirmed in his pre-match chat with SPURSPLAY that the midfielder, who has missed each of our last three games due to his international duties, will not arrive back from the Ivory Coast until the day of the game, and therefore will not be an option.
"No. He doesn't get back until tomorrow (Wednesday)," Ange said when asked whether he might be available for the capital clash.
"Obviously, I'm disappointed for him because their ambition was to win the competition but Pape really contributed. He was a key member and played really well throughout. It'll be good to get him back."
Asked in his pre-match press conference if he knew when Pape would be returning, Ange replied: "The latest I heard is that he should be back tomorrow at some stage. I'm disappointed for him, because Senegal had ambitions to win the competition, but he did well for them again, he's a key member. From our side, it will be good to get him back and he should be fine for Saturday."
