Team news from City | Guardiola's update on Haaland

Thu 25 January 2024, 14:55|Tottenham Hotspur

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that striker Erling Haaland will not feature for Manchester City in our FA Cup fourth round clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday evening (8pm UK).

The striker - 71 goals in 75 games in all competitions for City since joining last season - has been out since early December with a foot injury.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, City boss Guardiola reported on Haaland: "He’s on the verge of coming back. Tomorrow, still he is not ready, but he is close. Some training sessions he has trained in the last two days. It’s not perfect so we wait a little bit more."

Goalkeeper Ederson is fit again after suffering a nasty gash in City's 3-2 win at Newcastle last time out on 13 January. John Stones is back in contention after picking up an injury in late December, but fellow defender Manuel Akanji remains sidelined.

Kevin de Bruyne made his return after the best part of five months out in City's third round win against Huddersfield on 7 January and followed up with a game-changing 20 minutes off the bench at Newcastle, where he scored the equaliser and set up Oscar Bobb's late winner.
