Spurs vs Sheffield United (WFA Cup) | Robert’s preview: "I’m looking forward to competing in this cup"

Robert Vilahamn is keen to deliver success to the Club but sees it as a long-term target ahead of our first game in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

FA Women’s Championship side, Sheffield United, are the visitors to Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road in the fourth round of the competition – our first meeting with the Blades since our 2-1 victory in the fifth round back in 2021.

Robert is preparing to step into the competition for the first time in his career, and although this campaign might be in the early stages of his project, he wants his side competing for this trophy in years to come.

“It’s a good way for us to win some silverware and for me, when growing up, this is a historic cup and a huge competition in this country so I’m looking forward to competing in this cup,” Robert said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“To see how the fans celebrated against Arsenal was really big for me, so I just want the Club to get silverware because they deserve it. I mean if you look at it this season, I would love to go to Wembley and win the cup, but we need to start with Sheffield United and make sure we beat them first.

For me, when growing up, this is a historic cup and a huge competition in this country.

“I’m dreaming of winning that title for the fans, but we are taking steps every week, so I’m not stressed if we don’t win it this year because we will make sure we are competing in years to come.”

However, Robert has highlighted the challenges faced in cup competitions. He said: “Every time you play in a cup competition, you have that pressure of a knockout game. So, you need to practice on how to be sharp in these types of games because if you give away too many chances to your opponents, then you will be knocked out of the cup.”

Three of our new signings – Shuang Wang, Matilda Vinberg and Charlotte Grant – are eligible to make their debuts on Sunday at Brisbane Road and Robert has been delighted with the new additions to the squad.

“If you look at the players we have signed, they suit the way we want to play which is good,” Robert added.

“Shuang is a mature player, she has been playing in France and the US. She is very technical and has the ability to play those through balls, but she also has a brilliant left foot.

“Matilda and Charli are two very talented players who have been good in the Swedish league and have broken into their respective international teams. They will, of course, need to adapt to this league but they are future players who will be competing for game time. They are three good additions to the squad.”
