Matilda Vinberg is excited for the new challenge that awaits in England after joining the Club.
The attacking midfielder joins the club after three years with Hammarby IF, racking up 21 goals in 78 appearances, with seven of those goals coming last season in what was a successful campaign for the Swedish side as they secured two titles – winning the Swedish Cup in June before lifting the Damallsvenskan (league) in November.
The 20-year-old has spent all her career in her homeland, Sweden, so far, however, a new country and a new league awaits and she is excited by the challenge in N17 – admitting that Head Coach Robert Vilahamn had a part to play in her move.
“It feels amazing to be here,” she beamed when speaking in her first interview with SPURSPLAY. “I have always dreamt about playing in England, I feel really excited and ready to do this. Of course, Robert is a reason why and feels good to have a Swedish coach by my side.
“I have always dreamt about being the best I can and be the best in the world, I think this is the right step for me. Dream big and hopefully become one of the best. This is the best club I could possibly be at right now.”
Describing her style of play, Matilda sees herself as a player that likes to get on the front foot with defenders and believes the game in England suits her as a player.
“I’m a fast player, I have a good left-foot and I like to go one-v-one, combine with players and, of course, score some goals,” Matilda added.
“I would say the differences between Sweden and England is the physical game, more technical players and it goes really fast. I think that suits me as a player, I like to be physical and play fast.
“I know, after talking to Robert, this is a team that suits me well and the way I play, I think it’s similar to Hammarby as well.”
The Sweden international’s first game could be the visit of Sheffield United to Brisbane Road in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Asked about meeting her teammates and supporters, Matilda said: “I look forward to meeting the girls and coaches to settle in and see how it’s here. I’m also really looking forward to playing in front of you all, put on this jersey and it’s going to be amazing.”
