This evening we face our 142nd FA Cup third round tie as we host Burnley at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (kick-off 8pm UK).
Here's a look at our record at this stage of the competition.
111
Having played 141 third round ties to date, we have successfully progressed to the next stage of the competition 111 times, meaning we have suffered defeat here just 30 times across our history.
In each of the last nine seasons, we have reached the fourth round of the competition, having not lost a third round tie since January, 2014 - a 2-0 away defeat to Arsenal.
Last season we made it through to round four thanks to a 1-0 win over League One outfit Portsmouth at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Harry Kane scoring the only goal of the game (his 265th strike for the Club)
Our line-up: Forster; Tanganga, Sanchez, Davies; Royal, Sarr, Skipp, Sessegnon (Spence 77); Bryan (Devine 90+2), Son; Kane.
Substitutes (not used): Lloris, Doherty, Hojbjerg, Romero, Lenglet, White, Mundle.
Watch - Spurs 1-0 Portsmouth | January, 2023
We last faced a fellow Premier League side at the third round stage of competition back in January, 2016, as we took on Leicester City. Having drawn the original tie 2-2 at the King Power Stadium, we then progressed to the fourth round with a 2-0 replay win over the Foxes at White Hart Lane thanks to goals from Heung-Min Son and Nacer Chadli.
Burnley in the third round
Our opponents in this year's third round of the FA Cup have enjoyed a strong success rate at this stage of the competition over the last few seasons.
Having gone four campaigns between 2012 and 2015 without progressing to the fourth round of the competition, they have since advanced from this stage in six of the last eight seasons. Of those wins though, only one of them came against Premier League opposition.
Last term, they enjoyed their best run in competition since 2003 as they reached the quarter-finals. In the season they lifted the Championship title, they comfortably dispatched Premier League opposition away from home in the third round as they defeated AFC Bournemouth 4-2 however they then struggled against then League One Ipswich Town in round four, being held to a 0-0 draw at Portman Road before they edged them 2-1 at Turf Moor in the replay. Third tier opposition awaited them in round five in the shape of Fleetwood Town, who they overcame 1-0 before they were dumped out the competitions after reaching the last eight as Manchester City ran out 6-0 winners.
Spurs vs Burnley in the Cup
To date, we have faced Burnley seven times in the FA Cup - and we have a rather strong record.
Having first faced the Clarets in the competition back in January, 1906, we have been victorious in five of our 7 encounters to date.
However, it must be noted that of those meetings which have come in the third round - like this evening's clash - we have come out on top in just one of those...
Falling 3-1 in a replay at Turf Moor following our first third round tie with the Lancashire side in 1909, the Clarets were also the side that defeated us in the FA Cup for the first time in two years bak in January, 1963. Having lifted the cup both in 1961 and 1962, beating Burnley in the 1961 semi-finals and then the 1962 Final, they swiftly exacted their revenge on us after that Wembley final, dispatching us 3-0 in our very next FA Cup outing.
However, in our most recent meeting in the competition - our third round encounter in January, 2015 - we did prevail. Drawing 1-1 at Turf Moor in the original tie - Nacer Chadli on the scoresheet for us - we then came out on top in the replay, winning 4-2 with goals from Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Danny Rose.
Our line-up: Vorm; Chiriches (Dier 80), Kaboul, Vertonghen, Davies; Capoue, Stambouli, Townsend (Onomah 76), Paulinho, Rose (Chadli 59); Soldado.
Substitutes (not used): Lloris, Naughton, Kane, Dembele.
