Jess Naz on style of football: “We play with a lot of freedom”

Jess Naz highlighted the confidence in the squad ahead our return to FA Women’s Super League action on Sunday evening (6:45pm KO).

The 23-year-old is one of the longest-serving players in the squad – currently her sixth season with the Club – and she has certainly seen different styles of football come and go during that time.

Now, with the exciting football being played under Head Coach, Robert Vilahamn, the forward believes that has seen a change in mentality and spoke about the importance of the whole squad.

Speaking on Inside Spurs earlier this week, Jess said: “We play with a lot of freedom, you could see that with the way we scored that goal against Arsenal at the stadium. We were playing out of the back, and we looked calm and composed.

“I think the mentality has also changed, we know we are good players, and we know that every player that steps on to the pitch will give it their all.

“The bench has been a big impact for us as well. The whole team in general, the football we are playing and the confidence we have is showing."

We are back in WSL action this week after the festive break with a trip to Dagenham & Redbridge’s Chigwell Construction Stadium to face West Ham United.

Sitting sixth in the table and three points off fourth-place, Manchester United, it has certainly been an excellent first half of the 2023/24 campaign and Jess reflected on the opening six months.

“We started off quite well, but we sort of slipped off where we had good performances but just couldn’t get the goals over the line,” she said on Inside Spurs.

“At the start of the season, we set out objectives on whether we wanted to focus on the table or performances, and we all agreed that we wanted it to go hand-in-hand. So, if we play the way we want to performance wise and continue developing, then the results will come.

“I think every game we have played; we have tried to take little steps and we will keep growing from them.”
