Ange on Timo: "He can be really exciting for us"

Tue 16 January 2024, 14:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou praised Timo Werner's mentality and performance after stepping up for his Spurs debut at Old Trafford - his first start in over a month.

The German forward played his part in an impressive display in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, marking his debut with an assist for Rodrigo Bentancur's equaliser at the start of the second half.

The deal for Timo's loan from RB Leipzig - his last start, a DFB Pokal clash with VfL Wolfsburg on 31 October - was announced on Tuesday and he was straight into the action.

You could see there were little moments, he was always a threat...

Ange on Timo

Asked about Timo in his post-match press conference at Old Trafford, Ange said: "He's had two sessions with us, he hasn't started a game for ages but I saw today I think he can be really exciting for us once he get to understand our game and gets up to speed with our training.

"You could see there were little moments today, he was always a threat and I think he will enjoy his football here. More importantly today I had no option but to start him. He was a really willing participant in it. He wanted to help. He put his hand up and said whatever I can do, I'll do and it's a credit to him."
