Heartbreak for Sonny as South Korea fall in semi-finals

Heung-Min Son and South Korea bowed out of the Asian Cup on Tuesday afternoon as they fell to Jordan in the semi-finals in Rawdat Al Jahhaniya, Qatar.

Playing their 11th semi-final match at the continental tournament, two second half strikes from Jordan were enough to see Sonny's nation bow out as the fell at the penultimate hurdle.

The third semi-final he has been a part of, our number seven started the clash but saw his nation struggle against a dominant Jordan side.

Despite their dominance in the first half which was shown in the stats as they recorded 12 shots on target, Jordan had not been allowed to get in front in the first-half, mainly due to some fine goalkeeping from Jo Hyeon-woo.

However, eight minutes after the restart, Yazan Al-Naimat chipped the ball home to give the middle eastern nation the lead before Musa Al-Tamari scored the key second goal on 66 minutes, giving them a rather healthy advantage.

And sadly there was not to be another late, late show from the Koreans. Having shown their best Houdini acts in both the round of 16 and quarter-finals as they came from behind with injury-time strikes to ultimately progress, it was not to be.

That was Sonny's 122nd cap.
