Team news | Southampton vs Spurs | Positive Davies update

Fri 13 December 2024, 11:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou has provided a positive update on Ben Davies saying there is a chance he could return before the end of the year.

The Wales international missed our previous two fixtures against Chelsea and Rangers after being forced off with a hamstring injury in the second half of our Premier League defeat at Bournemouth on 5 December.

After losing fellow defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven to injury against Chelsea last Sunday, our Head Coach has allayed fears about the severity of Ben's injury and has said there is a possibility the defender could still return this calendar year.

"Ben is not as bad as first thought," said Ange, speaking in his press conference ahead of our Premier League trip to Southampton on Sunday evening. "There is a chance he could be back hopefully before the new year so that was positive again.

"Initially, we were a bit worried, but again you need a week for it to settle down, and the latest information I got this morning was that it's nowhere near as bad as we might have thought it was and hopefully a quicker turnaround for him."

Guglielmo Vicario, Mikey Moore, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert also remain sidelined alongside defensive trio Ben, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, while Yves Bissouma is serving a one-match suspension for reaching his yellow card limit and Rodrigo Bentancur continues his domestic suspension.
