Team news from Southampton | Saints boosted by returning players

Fri 13 December 2024, 14:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Bednarek, Paul Onuachu and Adam Lallana are all back available for Southampton as we prepare to meet at St Mary's in the Premier League on Sunday (7pm UK).

Poland defender Bednarek is back after a month out after picking up a knee injury on international duty against Portugal. Nigeria striker Onuachu has been out since limping out of Saints' narrow loss at home to Liverpool on 24 November, while Lallana was also forced off in the first half against the Reds.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Saints' boss Russell Martin said: "Jan Bednarek's back, Paul Onuachu's back, which is really good, and apart from that we're all good.

"It'll give us something different, in Janny there's a lot of games played for us, a lot of trust. He's been a very good performer for us in our time here, including this season, with leadership and courage with the ball.

"Paul gives us a real alternative option that's different to anyone in the squad and most people in the league actually. He was really unfortunate at the timing of his injury as he was in such a good place and was going to really help us I think, and now he's going to help us moving forwards."

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is also fit, while fellow glovesman Aaron Ramsdale is 'very close' after a finger injury. However, Saints remain without longer-term absentees Gavin Bazunu, Ross Stewart, Juan Larios and Will Smallbone.
