Club makes Christmas donation to local foodbanks

Destiny Udogie and Radu Dragusin today visited two of our local foodbanks – North Enfield and Tottenham - to make a delivery of essential items donated by the Club ahead of Christmas.

Foodbanks provide emergency food parcels containing at least three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced meals to individuals and families within the community.

The Club is a long-term supporter of its local Foodbanks and makes a donation ahead of Christmas every year, in addition to year-round support, to assist those living in crisis within our local community.

In addition to long-life food, cereals, toiletries and baby products, the Club also donated clothing including jumpers, rain jackets and footwear.

Last year, according to the Trussell Trust, foodbanks across the country distributed 3.1 million emergency food parcels – the most ever in a single year.

Thanks to the kind donations of organisations and individuals throughout the year, our two local foodbanks were able to feed a total of 22,960 people during 2023-24.

In the past five years, Tottenham Foodbank alone has delivered 160,658 KG of food – the equivalent of 13.3 double-decker buses or 669,409 tins of baked beans – with demand increasing by more than 300% during that time.

Radu said: “It’s great to be part of this initiative and to give back to the community. It’s important we realise that not everyone is as fortunate as we are, so we must do what we can to help. It was a fulfilling experience to come here with Destiny.”

Destiny added: “It’s nice to give back and to see our Club help others – I am proud to be a part of this. Honestly, I did not know too much about the work of foodbanks before I visited, so it was great to meet the volunteers and see what they do to help people.”

The Club sits within one of London’s most deprived areas and has long recognised its responsibility to support vulnerable people within its communities during the Christmas period.

In addition to our Foodbank donation, Men’s and Women’s players will be making Christmas toy deliveries to local young people and families experiencing hardship, with a delivery of hampers to hospital staff also planned this month.

The Club recently became the inaugural sporting partner of the Multibank Christmas Campaign, with players, staff and fans donating essential products to combat the issue of hygiene poverty across our communities.
