Ange: “The players are giving everything”

Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for the efforts of the players after Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham.
With eight regular squad members unavailable - including Dominic Solanke, who fell ill overnight and was ruled out Sunday morning - players are having to dig deep as we prepare for the fourth game of 11 matches in 36 days at Bournemouth on Thursday night.
It’s a challenge, but the players out there are giving their all, and that’s all I can ask for...
Ange certainly made a point of crediting the players for their ‘unbelievable’ effort, as he explained how Dom’s absence played out and the challenge of reorganising late when he spoke to our Review Show afterwards.
“We didn’t find out (about Dom) until he got here, again, that’s the spell we’re in at the moment,” he said. “That’s why I’ve got to give credit to these players. It’s unbelievable the effort they are putting in at the moment to keep us progressing and pushing on to get us where we want to be, it’s outstanding considering the challenges we’re getting thrown at the moment.
“The players out there are giving everything they can. We’ve still got to be careful with them. That’s the reason Deki didn’t start today, he’s hardly missed a minute of football, and we have to look after him so he’s able to perform at the levels he’s started at. It’s a challenge, but the players out there are giving their all, and that’s all I can ask for.”
Asked about the growing understanding between the central defensive pairing of Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin, plus goalkeeper Fraser Forster, with Cuti Romero, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario all out, Ange added: “They’ve (the back three) been outstanding.
“I just feel at the moment we’re not getting the credit we deserve. The players, in particular. Any other club, they have one centre-back out and it makes headlines, we’ve got two centre-backs out and our goalkeeper, and this group of players just continues to push on. Great credit to them. They don’t want me to make excuses or allowances, but, at the same time, I’m not going to dismiss the fact that they are giving everything for this football club.”
