Matter of stats | Our opening day record in the Premier League

Mon 19 August 2024, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

We defend a record of one defeat in our last eight matches on opening weekend in the Premier League as we prepare to kick-off our 2024/25 campaign against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium this evening (8pm UK).

Tonight will be our 33rd opening day fixture of the Premier League era, which began in 1992/93 - our first match in the new competition was a goalless draw at Southampton on 15 August, 1992.

We were unbeaten in the first five opening days of the Premier League - 1992/93 to 1996/97. Our first opening day loss was against Manchester United at the Lane on 10 August, 1997.

Interestingly, we've played 22 of our 32 opening-day fixtures in the Premier League away from home - tonight will be 23 of 33
