Local youngsters score goals and throw touchdowns at Huddle Project Festival

Fri 23 August 2024, 16:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Our Foundation’s Summer of Spurs continued today with a festival of football and NFL FLAG activities.

The event at New River Sport & Fitness in Haringey saw boys and girls aged 11-16 take part in a range of exciting games and challenges to win Huddle Project-branded prizes.

The Huddle Project is a joint-funded programme by Tottenham Hotspur, the NFL and Nike.

It was launched in October to provide increased access to free sporting activity and has since engaged 258 local youngsters across 86 sessions.

Andre Thomas, Foundation project coordinator who leads on delivery of the Huddle Project, said: “Bringing together football and NFL FLAG makes for a unique type of session, and we had a great time showcasing this today.

“It’s been almost a year since we launched the Huddle Project and it’s been brilliant seeing how local youngsters have responded to it, with many who have taken part showing a clear increase in confidence, including some who have gone on to gain accredited qualifications through the FA and will soon be gaining similar qualifications through the NFL.”

Through a £1 million investment over three years, it was hoped the Huddle Project would not only provide access to sporting activity, but also employment opportunities.

Andre added: “The Club envisaged building the Stadium would drive uplift of the area and the Huddle Project is a great example of bringing in partners such as the NFL and Nike for the benefit of our community.”

Sessions currently run in school term time, between 4.30pm and 6.30pm every Wednesday at Duke’s Aldridge Academy, opposite Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with girls’ only sessions at the school between the same times every Friday.

Participants who have not previously taken part must first complete the registration form linked to at the top of the page.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the home of the NFL in the UK, will be hosting New York Jets v Minnesota Vikings on 6 October and Jacksonville Jaguars v Chicago Bears on 13 October.
