It was another highly successful trip for our Global Football Development (GFD) coaching team during the Club’s visit to Seoul.
Having delivered 10 sessions in Tokyo during the previous week of our Asia tour, engaging 500 players over four days, the team went even further in Seoul and worked with over 700 local players and coaches in the Korean capital.
Across six days, a total of 15 coach education and/or player development sessions were delivered by our team. Through these sessions our coaches engaged seven grassroots clubs, five different K-League academies, the local football association and ran a 5-a-side tournament in conjunction with one of our local Korean supporters’ clubs.
Our GFD work in Seoul was topped off with a once-in-a-lifetime experience for 13 children from Make-A-Wish Foundation Korea. The children were joined in a football session by Jamie Donley, Luca Gunter and Brandon Austin, who took time out to visit a group of youngsters going through an immensely tough period in their lives. The session incorporated basic non-contact technical drills, with Jamie describing it as a “really special” experience.
All sessions were tailored to give players and coaches an insight into the Club’s coaching philosophy, which is renowned for developing world class players through our own technical DNA.
Chris Acaster, Head of Global Coaching at Tottenham Hotspur, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Korea and the opportunity to engage with so many players and coaches of all levels through our programmes. We have been blown away by the passion in the country for both Spurs and football in general and can’t wait to return to meet with some of the friends we have made here.”
The Club’s Global Football Development team impacts circa 45,000 players and coaches annually and demonstrates year-on-year growth.
Technical sessions are delivered by our FA and UEFA-qualified coaches who take inspiration from Men’s and Women’s First Team training methods to help develop every player that takes part on our programmes.
