Club supports public art initiative to raise funds for local hospice

The Club has sponsored a unique piece of artwork that will form part of the Big Fun Art Adventure in Haringey for the next eight weeks, raising much-needed funds for North London Hospice.

A vibrant 6ft tall owl statue named ‘Tottenham Hootspur’ has been hand-painted by Murwalls – the artists behind the murals of Ledley King and Harry Kane that adorn the High Road – and will reside outside Percy House, the iconic Grade II-listed home of Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, for the next eight weeks. The statue was unveiled today by our legendary former captain Gary Mabbutt.

‘Tottenham Hootspur’ is one of 30 colourfully-designed owls, sponsored by a range of local organisations, that can be found on the adventure trail, celebrating the culture and creativity that North London has to offer.

Local residents and visitors to the area will now be able to follow the trail and locate the owl structures via the trail app. The app is downloadable from the Google Play Store, Apple Store and via the Big Fun Art Adventure website.

Paper maps are also available for collection at the Big Fun Art Adventure pop-up shop, which is located near the main entrance of The Mall shopping Centre at Wood Green. They can also be collected from all North London Hospice charity shops and Haringey libraries, as well as from Asda and Tesco in Tottenham Hale.

North London Hospice, which serves the Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, chose owls as the inspiration for the trail as they are known for their wisdom and kindness. Hospice staff, like owls, work through the night supporting patients and healthcare professionals, providing free end-of-life care.

The sponsorship of the owls is helping the charity to raise much-needed funds to meet its annual running costs of more than £16 million. After eight weeks on their perches, there will be the chance to say a final goodbye to the owls at a special farewell event before they are auctioned to raise further funds.

Charlie Langhorne, Managing Director and Co-founder Wild in Art said: “The owls will bring colour and creativity to North London, and I have no doubt that they will capture everyone’s imagination. The trail will be a great opportunity for people to discover the local area and experience some truly unique and inspiring artwork, while finding out more about the important work of North London Hospice.”

Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director, Tottenham Hotspur said: “We are delighted to support this fantastic initiative, putting Tottenham on the map with the fun trail, while also raising funds to support North London Hospice’s vital work. This is another example of the Club identifying unique ways to support local good causes that benefit those living on our doorstep. We encourage local residents to show their support and take part in the Big Fun Art Adventure over these next eight weeks.”

North London Hospice cares for over 3,500 people with a life-limiting illness every year and provides support for their families, friends, and carers.
