Ange Postecoglou was full in his praise for Wilson Odobert after an impressive debut in our 4-0 win against Everton on Saturday.
Positive from the first whistle, the winger looked to get at his man throughout - in this case, Everton debutant, Roman Dixon - as we dominated the Premier League encounter from start to finish.
James Maddison later spoke about how he, Wilson and Destiny connected immediately down the left side as goals from Yves Bissouma and Heung-Min Son put us in control at half-time. Cristian Romero celebrated his 100th appearance for us with the third, a bullet header, before Sonny wrapped it up with his second for 4-0 after Micky van de Ven’s 80-yard dash up the pitch.
Speaking to us on The Review Show, Ange was asked what he’d seen in Wilson in his first week at the club to hand him his debut straight away. “Well, what you saw out there,” he said. “It's just really exciting.
“I was excited by the way he went about things. He always wants to take his opponent on, you know, even if he hasn't been successful, he goes at him again and this is a 19-year-old playing for his new club in front of 60,000 people, and just played football the way he wants to play it, and I love that about him.
“He got tired in the second-half, but it’s really exciting for us that another young player comes in that is going to make us a better team.”
Asked about Wilson's debut in his press conference, Ange replied: "He's different from our other wingers. He goes at his opponent and, you know, even if he wasn't successful, he went at him again and I think that's exactly why we bought him to the club. I mean, he's 19-years-old, his first game for his new club at home in front of 60,000. Yeah, really exciting."
