Remembering every Women’s match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Tue 12 November 2024, 16:00|Tottenham Hotspur
We are back in action at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon (1.45pm UK) for the first Barclays Women's Super League north London derby of the campaign.
This weekend’s fixture will be our thirteenth visit to the world-class stadium – the ninth WSL fixture to be held here - and we take a look back at our previous games in N17…
Spurs 0-2 Arsenal -17.11.19- WSL
The first-ever north London derby in the WSL came here at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in only our sixth fixture in the top-flight following our promotion. And a crowd of 38,262 broke the league’s attendance record at the time, although Arsenal took the points. Kit Graham and Rianna Dean spurned good chances to score for us while Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema netted for the visitors.
Spurs 0-3 Arsenal - 27.03.21 - WSL
The Gunners visited N17 again in March 2021, this time in a behind-closed-doors fixture due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But Rehanne Skinner’s side found it tough going as goals from Caitlin Foord, Miedema and Katie McCabe gave Arsenal the victory as we stayed eighth in the WSL table.
Spurs 0-4 Arsenal - 08.08.21 - Pre-season friendly
We welcomed the Gunners back to N17 in a pre-season friendly to build-up preparations for the 2021/22 campaign – our third season in the WSL. A Beth Mead goal on the half hour mark handed the visitors the lead before Katie McCabe, Anna Patten and Alex Hennessy netted in the second half to secure a 4-0 scoreline.
Spurs 1-0 Birmingham - 04.09.21 - WSL
History was made on this occasion as we recorded our first WSL victory here at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, beating Birmingham City on the opening day of the 2021/22 campaign. We’d actually played Arsenal here again in a pre-season friendly a month earlier while this win over the Blues gave us the perfect start to the campaign. Kit Graham was the history-maker, scoring our first-ever WSL goal at this venue.
Spurs 1-0 Leicester - 08.05.22 - WSL
We ended the 2021/22 season as we started it– with a 1-0 WSL win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium! With a chance to finish in a highest-ever position of fifth in the table with a win over Leicester City, we achieved just that thanks to Ashleigh Neville netting the only goal of the game in the 49th minute as she rose highest to Jess Naz’s cross and guided her header into the back of the net.
Spurs 1-2 Manchester United - 12.02.23 - WSL
The first of three WSL games here last season ended in disappointment with Manchester United taking the spoils. Goalless at the break, Leah Galton opened the scoring for the visitors before Bethany England equalised with a wonderful strike with 15 minutes left. But almost immediately, Molly Bartrip put through her own net and United held out for the win despite Ella Toone’s late red card.
Spurs 2-2 Brighton - 29.04.23 - WSL
England struck twice on this ground in April, 2023, to help us to a vital draw against Brighton in our bid to avoid relegation last season. We twice had to come from behind as Elisabeth Terland gave the visitors the lead early on, but England equalised instantly. Lee Geum-Min put Brighton ahead again in the second half, before our striker smashed in our second and her third goal in N17
Spurs 4-1 Reading - 20.05.23 - WSL
A comprehensive victory over Reading here in May, 2023, secured our WSL status for the 2023/24 campaign. Facing a side that started the game bottom of the table and who would have moved level on points with us had they won, we produced a commanding performance with a double from Bethany England and further goals from Celin Bizet and Kit Graham to guarantee our place in the top flight.
Spurs 0-0 Aston Villa - 26.08.23 - Pre-season friendly
Ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, we faced Aston Villa in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly as we stepped up preparations and it was manager Robert Vilahamn first experience in the dugout in N17. Although we failed to find the back of the net, it was a bright performance against a fellow WSL side, with Bizet carving out a couple of opportunities.
Spurs 1-0 Arsenal - 16.12.23 - WSL
Further history was created in our last north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as we secured our first-ever win over Arsenal in front of a bumper crowd of 19,480. Having withstood the Gunners' pressure and had a couple of half-chances ourselves, we took the lead 13 minutes into the second half when Martha Thomas finished a slick move that left the visitors completely outfoxed, prodding home Celin Bizet’s pass into the bottom corner.
Spurs 2-1 Leicester (A.E.T) - 14.04.24 - WFA Cup
Martha Thomas wrote her name into the history books once again at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in our victory over Leicester City in the semi-final of the Women’s FA Cup. Jutta Rantala fired the visitors ahead in the first half with a powerful strike but that was cancelled out by Jess Naz in the closing stages, forcing the game into extra time. Then, with just two minutes left on the clock, Thomas headed home the winner to secure a spot in the FA Cup Final for the first time in our history.
Spurs 3-1 West Ham - 18.05.24 - WSL
We concluded the 2023/24 campaign with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United here. Bethany England fired us ahead after just four minutes in N17 and, although Riko Ueki grabbed an equaliser in the early stages of the second half, Jess Naz reinstated our lead before Drew Spence stepped up with a stunning goal from distance to wrap up the three points for us.
