Spurs 2-1 Sheffield United | Ange’s verdict: “It was great to see the players react”

Ange Postecoglou stated before the game how footballing discipline was going to be key against Sheffield United - and that’s how it turned out as we struck late to win a thriller on Saturday.

We dominated throughout and created a host of chances but couldn’t find a way past The Blades’ stubborn defensive block when disaster struck, and the visitors took the lead through Gustavo Hamer on 73 minutes.

We’d racked up over 20 efforts at goal by then, but effort number 27 brought us level in the eighth of 12 added minutes when Richarlison, off the bench, timed his run perfectly to meet Ivan Perisic’s corner and head home from six yards.

We stayed calm, clear-headed and worked our way into the game in a really good way considering all the chaos that was happening

It was set up for a grandstand finish in front of the South Stand and Dejan Kulusevski delivered, receiving Richarlison’s pass in his stride and planting the ball into the top corner from 20 yards – N17 erupted, 90+10 on the clock – the latest winning goal in Premier League history.

Speaking on The Review Show on SPURSPLAY, Ange told us: “There was a fair bit going on today! It’s great. You want to see all aspects of our team developing and today was as much about the character as the football.

“It was great to see the players react. It was a difficult game. There just seemed to be a lot of dead time, a lot of stoppages, no great flow. For the most part we handled it okay. There were times when we got frustrated.

“It’s something that we’re going to have to cope with but, particularly after we went 1-0 down, I really liked the way the boys went about it. We stayed calm, clear-headed and worked our way into the game in a really good way considering all the chaos that was happening.”
