Sandro has announced his retirement from playing at the age of 34.
The all-action midfielder made his debut for Internacional in Brazil at the age of 18 and made over 300 appearances in a career spanning 16 years and spells in England, Turkey, Italy and Portugal. He earned 17 caps for Brazil.
Fondly nicknamed 'The Beast', Sandro became a cult figure with his all-action performances for us between 2010-2014, not least as we reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League at the first attempt in 2010/11. Hit by a serious knee injury in 2012/13, Sandro made 105 appearances for us before moving to QPR in 2014
A recent guest on our Off The Shelf podcast, where he was reunited with his former team-mate Michael Dawson, Sandro announced his retirement via a video on Instagram on Monday.
Speaking to us this afternoon, Sandro, who is currently working towards gaining his coaching badges, said: "I've been thinking about this for a long time. My football career has been like a dream, but now is the time to focus on my coaching."
