Robbo on Madders' goal at Burnley: "Everyone in the stadium knew where that was going"

Paul Robinson knew it...

Perched at the top of the main stand at Turf Moor in his co-commentary position for the Premier League's world feed of our clash against Burnley, our legendary former goalkeeper, Robbo, who ended his playing career at Burnley, had one of the best views in the house as James Maddison picked the ball up from Destiny Odogie in the perfect slot - 20 yards out, left of centre.

The rest... well, we all know.

"The form that man is in at the moment," Robbo said in the moment on commentary. "That was never in question. It was never in doubt, when James Maddison found himself 20 yards from goal in acres of space you could see him open up for the shot... everyone in the stadium knew where that was going to go.

"Burnley lost possession in their own third of the field and as soon as Udogie plays it to Maddison, he opens himself up and in a similar way to his strike in the first half (saved well by James Trafford), gets it out of his feet and someone in that form, with that confidence, one thing in his mind and everybody knew where that was going. It's a fantastic strike from James Maddison, everything that he deserves."

Sonny scored his hat-trick but for me, the man of the match was James Maddison, he was at the heart of everything...

Robbo, who made 175 appearances for us between 2004-08, has been impressed with what he's seen of Ange Postecoglou's team so far. Summing up in commentary, he said: "They looked like a team today, they are forward-thinking, a goal threat, Sonny scored his hat-trick but for me, the man of the match was James Maddison, he was at the heart of everything. His vision, passing, out of possession as well, the positions he takes up, his runs... Spurs look a different animal, they're good on the eye, a great watch."
