Robert Vilahamn was delighted with how the team recovered from conceding early to dominate the second half and run out impressive 4-2 winners at Villa to go top of the Women’s Super League on Saturday afternoon.
Martha Thomas led the way in spectacular style with our first hat-trick in the WSL, all clinically finished, with her first and third goals right out of the top drawer. Ashleigh Neville arguably scored the most important goal of all, though, a looping header to put us 2-1 up in added time in the first half.
She fights for the team, works for the team and scores goals for the team
There were similarities to last weekend’s victory against Brighton at the AMEX as we again came from behind to run out deserved winners - our third win on the spin in the WSL.
Speaking at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium, Robert said: “This is one of the toughest away games all season and when they scored in the fifth minute, and they were very good at the beginning, I’m thinking, ‘this is going to be a tough day’, but I’m so impressed with how the players came back after that, taking on the battle, and how we played in the second half was just brilliant, we dominated, scored some beautiful goals - I’m really pleased. I really like the way we stick to the game plan and stick together. It’s a joy to watch them.
“You can see that we have really good character in this group. We know how to keep going. Also, you can see how brave we are in the build-up, how we play in the Tottenham way. That’s also a big step for us. Also, we score a lot of goals and that’s what we want to do. We see that the fans see that, and I see so many fans here today, that’s brilliant, because going to an away game and having so many fans singing for us, I’m so happy for that as well.”
