Spurs 2-1 Liverpool | Vicario: “For a moment, I couldn’t realise what had happened”

Guglielmo Vicario embodied every Spurs fan as Joel Matip’s own goal ripped into the roof of the net to hand us a dramatic victory against Liverpool on Saturday evening.
We’d been up against nine men for the best part of 30 minutes when, as the clocked ticked into the sixth of six minutes’ added time, Cristian Romero played wide to Pedro Porro and his wicked low cross flew home.
It was the cue for pandemonium inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but as that was going on around him, goalkeeper ‘Vic’ sunk to his knees, arms aloft.
Speaking soon after to The Review Show on SPURSPLAY, co-commentator, pundit and club legend Clive Allen told Vic that he’d noticed his reaction as the ball hit the back of the net.
Vic said: “For a moment, I couldn’t realise what had happened. I didn’t have the ability to run to my teammates in the corner, so I knelt down on the pitch and looked up. The atmosphere they created was incredible and I think this is an unbelievable win for us.
“First, Sheffield United, now, another incredible win in the last minute. I think we deserved it. We played our football for all the match and kept going.”
Vic produced a stunning double save to deny Cody Gakpo and Andy Robertson at 0-0 as the game took off as we all expected in the first half. However, that changed on 26 minutes as Curtis Jones’ red card allowed us to take more control, and Heung-Min Son converted Richarlison’s cross for 1-0 10 minutes later.
Liverpool struck back through Cody for 1-1 just before half-time, Sonny and James Maddison were denied by Alisson Becker as we started to get on top again but then Diogo Joto picked up two yellow cards and the visitors were down to nine, Jurgen Klopp this time reorganising in a five/three block. That proved such a tough nut to crack until Porro’s cross and Matip’s own goal in the final seconds.
Vic added: “It was an important moment. We were level, then we scored. We deserved this win all together. We have to enjoy this moment, to rest then keep going because we have another challenge next week and then the international break. We have to be focussed and to prepare the best game by game.
"This has to be our goal throughout the season - keep going, keep working.”
