Opposition view | Roy Hodgson on finding a way to stop 'something of a juggernaut'

Fri 27 October 2023, 11:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Palace boss Roy Hodgson was full in his praise for our start to the season - a start he aims to put the brakes on when we meet at Selhurst Park this evening (8pm).

We travel to SE25 enjoying our best start to a Premier League season, still unbeaten after nine games - seven wins, two draws - and sitting proudly top of the table.

However, we all know we're in for a stern test at the Palace with Hodgson's team usually tough to break down, especially at home - and no doubt determined to bounce back from last weekend's 4-0 loss at Newcastle.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Hodgson said: "Tomorrow night is going to be a very different game for us. We have got to find a way somehow of stopping what has proved to be something of a juggernaut so far.

“You don't play Manchester City every week, you don't play Arsenal every week, and now Tottenham have joined that group of teams that ask you very special questions.

“It’s because a, they are very good physically, like Newcastle, b, they are excellent technically and c, they have a system of play which all the players understand, and the rotation asks a lot of questions of your team.

“So, that's what we have got tomorrow night. If they come out and play as well as they did against Fulham, we are going to have every bit as tough a job as Fulham had to deal with them - although I thought Fulham were very well organised defensively and did pretty well in that respect. But still, in the end, they had to accept that the opponents were too good for them.”
