Heung-Min Son paid tribute to Guglielmo Vicario’s performance at Palace and his start at Spurs after another important contribution from the goalkeeper in our 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.
‘Vic’ again produced key saves when it mattered, this time in the first half, with it still goalless, when he first parried away Jordan Ayew’s shot from the right angle before an even better stop, this time a reaction tip away down to his left to deny Odsonne Eduard’s snapshot from the edge of the box.
Goalless at the break, we took control in the second half with an own goal from Joel Ward and Sonny’s finish from a fine move, back to front, started by Vic. We looked comfortable at 2-0 only for Palace to pull a goal back in the fourth of eight minutes scheduled added time as Vic was finally beaten by Ayew’s volley, but it stayed 2-1 to stretch our unbeaten start to eight wins and two draws in 10 matches so far, with Vic keeping four clean sheets.
Having Vic behind us, we are just very comfortable that he’s going to make unbelievable saves, which he did. Big credit to Vic
Speaking together on the Review Show from Selhurst Park, it was put to Sonny how important Vic’s contribution was before we got on top. “Before we scored, I think without Vic’s saves, we would have gone behind and when you go behind in this stadium, you know what’s going to happen,” said the skipper.
“Vic made some unbelievable saves and generally, the team performance, it was a great effort, and we totally deserved the three points.
“I’m enjoying every single moment with Vic. He made great saves, and he’s playing out well, it’s fantastic having him in goal. In any game, we’re going to face chances and shots on target, but having Vic behind us, we are just very comfortable that he’s going to make unbelievable saves, which he did. Big credit to Vic. Also, the way he plays with his feet is just fantastic, it brings so much to the team. I’m very happy having him in our team.”
